How to get to the Center for Automation Research

From Capital Beltway: Take exit 25B for College Park (Route 1), go south on Route 1 for two miles. Take first right turn into campus at Campus Drive. Take a right at first fork from Campus Drive onto Paint Branch Drive. Pass two right turns. Third right will be the A.V. Williams Building. Either park in a metered space across the street, using quarters for payment, or park in the pay lot across Paint Branch Drive from the A.V. Williams Building. See the map for an illustration of this route. Taken your parking stub from the machine and bring it to the CfAR reception desk in A.V. Williams Room 4417. We will validate your parking stub.

From Baltimore and Points North: Go south on Interstate 95. Get off I-95 at Exit 27 and follow the signs for US 1 south towards College Park. Once you pass the Capital Beltway (I-495), continue as above.

From Baltimore-Washington International Airport: Proceed south on Baltimore-Washington Parkway (Route 295) to Capital Beltway towards College Park (Interstate 495, outer loop). Exit onto Route 1 south (Exit 25B) and continue as above.

From Bowie/Annapolis and Points East: Take Route 50 west to Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) towards Baltimore/College Park (outer loop). Exit onto Route 1 south (Exit 25B); follow directions above.

From Montgomery County and Points West (Dulles Airport): Take Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) towards Baltimore/College Park (inner loop). Exit onto Route 1 south (Exit 25B); continue as above.

From Northern Virginia and Points South: Take Capital Beltway to Interstate 395 North, cross 14th Street Bridge and follow directions from National Airport, below, or to Route 295 North (Southwest Freeway); this road becomes Route 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) in Maryland. Follow Kenilworth Ave. to East-West Highway (Route 410); turn left and continue west until you see U.S. Route 1. Turn right (north) onto Route 1. Turn left onto Campus Drive, which will appear once you have passed the Rossborough Inn (this will be on the left). Continue as above.

From Washington, D.C.: Take Rhode Island Avenue (Route 1) north to College Park, or take New York Avenue (Route 50), to Bladensburg Road (Alternate U.S. Route 1); bear left at Peace Cross and continue north. This road merges with Route 1 in Hyattsville after crossing railroad overpass. Follow Route 1 north to University of Maryland campus; turn left onto Campus Drive and continue as above.

From Washington National Airport: Take 14th Street Bridge to Interstate 395 North; take C Street exit (tunnel under Capitol) and continue until highway ends at New York Avenue; turn right and continue to Alternate U.S. 1 as above.

From Metro, using subway system: Take the Green Line in the direction of Greenbelt. Get off the train at the College Park Station. Exit in the direction of buses. Either go to the buses area or the taxi stand. If you want to take a taxi, take it to Campus Drive. Follow directions for driving to the A.V. Williams Building as above after turning right at the first fork, once you are on campus. Alternately, look for red and white Shuttle UM buses. The shuttle is free, and will drop you off just downhill from the "M" traffic circle on campus. Turn downhill. Walk to Paint Branch Drive, which is the last left turn before leaving the campus. Walk along Paint Branch, past Stadium Drive, to the A.V. Williams Building. It is on the right side of the street, just after the Stadium Drive turn-off.
