The Adventuring Journal of Auryxos, Obsidiman Purifier

There are those who view the Purifiers as half-crazed avengers, driven over the edge by the Scourge, and certainly not to be trusted. I have known a few Purifiers myself, and while they can indeed be rather obsessive, most have been kind, caring individuals as well. Finding information on Obsidimen is difficult at best, and the opportunity represented by this journal is a great one. Auryxos is rather reticent, but what he does mention is well worth paying attention to.

I do not understand. I know that my experience in this world is limited, but the frantic activity of the Name-givers around me is even more energetic and confusing than is usual for their short, active lives. Perhaps some time thinking will enable me to organize my thoughts.

The sunrise was beautiful today, with the light of the morning sun licking over the mountain tops like fire working it's way up a dry branch. I was truly blessed to see such a sight. The flute I have been working on is complete. I have woven Elemental Air into the crystal structure, to give the flute pure tone and a carrying sound. Perhaps I will see if one of my brothers will consent to play it at some time.

Perhaps it is their short lives that make them so frantic. Always rushing from place to place and crisis to crisis. So very few of them seem to take time to appreciate where they are. And yet, perhaps that is their strength. By virtue of constant motion, they accomplish so much, even if what they accomplish remains only for a short time.

I must talk with Elder Vertik. Perhaps he can tell me if my surmise is correct. If so, I may be able to manipulate the Elemental Air in my flute, creating a 'hole' in the matrix that binds the Element to the physical structure of the crystal, so that a small amount of the Element is released over a period of time. This should, in effect, allow music to be played by the flute without it being played by a Name-giver. It will take time, but it is an interesting idea.

It has been such a short time, yet the other Name-givers are even more frantic than they were just a few months ago. I know that I am young, and that the news of the approaching Horrors arrived before I emerged from the Liferock, but I still cannot quite comprehend the amount of energy these Name-givers are putting into their activity. The Brotherhood, too, is making preparations, and they will be completed as scheduled. Such a short time until the dome is complete, only another 10 years. I suppose it seems even shorter to those whose lives are only measured in decades. This bears thinking about.

I find it fascinating that this journal actually begins before the Scourge. It offers an unparalleled view of what our world was like so many centuries ago. The only thing that puzzles me is that this journal seems to have been written by two entirely different people, though Auryxos assures me that all of this is his own experience.
