Doing Stuff

It was just about a year ago that I discovered that I have all the symptoms of what is called Attention Deficit Disorder. These include problems with memory, distractability, paying attention in school, and hyper-activity. We had a number of programs at our last EveCon on the subject. As it turns out what I have is not technically ADD but was actually Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by an abusive childhood. In fact the symptoms are exactly the same. The only difference being that in ADD they do not know the cause. In both cases the symptoms seem to be caused by the body's emergency response system being turned on permanently.

One of the things I have struggled with the most in life is just actually doing stuff. There are a thousand great ideas all racing around in my head, but picking up the tools and starting to actually do them is difficult. Even painful. So there are lots of half-finished projects and un-done ideas. Very sad, and they also clutter up the house a lot.

The only reason that I can "do" the conventions is that a lot of you have joined in and helped out. "FanTek" exists as a way for us to do things together that we would never quite get around to accomplishing on our own. As such it is more of a Philosophy than it is an "organization". Even with all of our differences we can still get together and for a brief time share in the same dream.

And now it is time for us to do new things, to take some of the old ideas and actually try them out. All these new things are based on the idea of doing things together, and some of them will work and some will not -- you can never tell till you try!

Remember, together we can move mountains. Or at the very least we can make really big molehills... or Giant SandCastles!
